In our English lessons we have started to look at non-fiction texts all about pirates. We have had a go at writing question sentences, using adjectives to write descriptions, looked at the features of a non-chronological report and collected information about pirates. In Maths, Year 2 have started a new unit on addition and subtraction. They have been using tens frames, part whole models and bar models to help them understand what a fact family is and write the relevant calculations. Year 1 have been investigating parts and wholes, using objects and numbers. Ask them to explain it to you. In Phonics, Year 1 have been focussing upon split diagraphs. They are getting super confident at listening to the phonemes and working out how to write them down. Year 2 have been learning the -al grapheme that makes the 'ul' sound at the end of words. They have also been learning about homophones such as sea/see, hear/here and night/knight and have started to write sentences using them in the correct context. The highlight of our week was taking part in the Harvest Festival at church. We loved being able to visit church again and enjoyed standing at the very front to perform our acrostic poem. Miss Derry was very proud of us! Well done to our Star of the Week and 5X reader winner!
