Class 3 has had an astonishing, amazing week!

In Mathematics, we continued our addition and subtraction unit- we have been adding four digit numbers using formal written methods. We used vocabulary such as ‘exchange’ and our new abbreviation DNA as a clear structure to explain mathematical processes and what we notice if there is a mistake. We reflected on multi-step problems and unpicked the vocabulary such as ‘fewer’ and ‘altogether’ to decipher what the question was REALLY asking us to calculate.

In English, we have continued to read ‘One Boy’s War’ by Lynn Huggins-Cooper which uncovered a range of rich vocabulary for us to use in our diary entries. We compared the diary entry features to a letter and practiced using subordinating conjunctions to enhance the main clause’s meaning.

In PE, we learnt how to pass a football accurately whilst dribbling and attempted to score accurately too. When we reflected on the lesson, it was clear that communication is key and some children were rewarded for showing sportsmanship. In RE, we learnt about ‘The Fall’ and in science we considered how animals can become endangered. We came up with many ways that we can prevent this from occurring. Successfully, Year 4 children have completed their charcoal artwork, which looks incredible!

A review from Miss Partington regarding this week’s outdoor learning session:

‘It’s been an incredible first block of sessions, and the children finished on a real high. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they worked brilliantly in small teams for an autumn-themed Scavenger Hunt. Armed with their checklists and brimming with curiosity, they set off to find some wonderful natural treasures. Watching them collaborate, problem-solve, and proudly show off their finds—from the perfect pine cone to a leaf with an insect hole—was a joy. They truly demonstrated amazing teamwork and respect for the natural environment.

After all the energetic searching and sharing of their collected items, we all settled down for a well-deserved treat: hot chocolate! This quiet time was the perfect way to finish. While enjoying our warm drink, we shared our favourite memory from this first block of outdoor sessions. It was lovely to hear what activities resonated most and see how much the children have gained from learning outside the classroom.

Thank you for encouraging their involvement and excitement.’

Enjoy a restful weekend before the trip of excitement commences!
