A Wonderful Week of Words, Watercolours, and World Book Day!
We started our week with a very special treat: an online seminar led by the brilliant author and poet, Michael Rosen! The children were mesmerised as he shared a variety of hilarious and heartwarming food-related stories from different cultures around the world. Inspired by Michael’s energetic storytelling, we picked up our sketchbooks and created some fantastic magic porridge pot illustrations. The classroom was overflowing with artistic talent (and imagined porridge!). Later in the week, we used the seminar as a springboard for our own writing, crafting our very own food-related stories. We have some seriously imaginative authors in our midst!
In our language learning, we have been busy mastering the months of the year in French. Ask your child if they can tell you when their birthday is in French—we have been practicing hard! We have also revolutionised our spelling practice this week. Instead of just writing lists, the children have been using a variety of hands-on methods to help them remember their words. We used Scrabble pieces to build words, unscrambled anagrams, and created pyramid words (writing the word one letter at a time to form a triangle shape). Spelling has never been so fun!
Thursday was, of course, World Book Day, and what a spectacular day it was! The effort that went into the costumes was incredible. The classroom was filled with a vibrant array of characters, from a very colorful Willy Wonka to the heroic Dogman. It was wonderful to see the children celebrating their love of reading and sharing their favourite books with each other.
In Science, we have turned our attention to the human body, specifically focusing on the skeletal structure. This week, we learnt all about the intricate bones in the human hand. The highlight of our science lesson, however, was a fantastic surprise from one of our talented students. They brought in a bionic hand that they had made at home! The whole class was fascinating to see how it worked, and it perfectly complemented what we were learning about anatomy and movement. Well done!
Finally, preparations for our school play, 'A Big Green Adventure', are well underway. We have been practicing our acting and singing, and I am delighted to report that the children are learning their lines fluently. We can't wait to perform it for you soon!
