It has been a wonderful week for Class 3, filled with hands-on learning and local exploration. We kicked things off by stepping out into the fresh air for a geography fieldwork trip around King’s Bromley. The children walked through the village to identify and distinguish between human and physical features. It was a fantastic way to see our surroundings through a geographical lens, noting everything from the natural flow of the land to the historic buildings that make our community unique.

In the classroom, our English lessons have been inspired by the rugged world of Ted Hughes' The Iron Man. We have been working hard on crafting atmospheric setting descriptions, focusing on the arrival of the giant. The children challenged themselves to use similes, prepositions, and expanded noun phrases to add depth and detail to their writing. A highlight of the week was our editing session, where everyone took the time to review their work and ensure they had met all the criteria, showing great pride in their final pieces. In Maths, we shifted our focus to the world of measurement. We have been exploring mass and capacity, getting to grips with comparing different units and practicing our addition skills to solve tricky volume and weight problems.

In science, we investigated how the body protects its vital organs. We conducted a memorable experiment involving an egg in a glass jar; while the egg was easily damaged when shaken alone, adding water—which represented tissue, muscle, and bodily fluids—showed how our organs are cushioned and protected from harm. This practical demonstration really helped the children visualize the clever ways our bodies stay safe.

To round off our busy week, we have been busy across all our foundation subjects. In French, we brightened up the classroom by learning our colours, while in PSHE, we had a thoughtful and important discussion about the value of respect and how it shapes our school community. Finally, we headed outside for PE, where we enjoyed a cricket lesson. The children worked hard on their fielding skills, practicing long-distance throwing and catching, while learning that clear communication is the most important tool on the field. It has been a wonderful week of hard work—well done, Class 3!
