What a whirlwind of a week we have had in Class 2! It might nearly be the end of term, but we have certainly not stopped working hard. The children have shown incredible stamina and enthusiasm, squeezing every last drop of learning, creativity, and joy out of their final days together.
Our main academic triumph this week was an intensive, hands-on Design and Technology project, where we dove headfirst into the world of kites. We began the week by investigating different styles of kites, exploring how their shapes help them catch the wind. The children then put their practical skills to the test by crafting traditional carp kites. Building on this knowledge, they took on the role of real engineers to design and make their very own diamond kites, carefully selecting materials for stability and flight. The absolute highlight of the week was putting our creations to the test. We headed out onto the MUGA, blasted the classic tune Let's Go Fly a Kite, and ran around with our kites held proudly aloft. Seeing their faces light up as their hard work took flight was pure magic.
Alongside our engineering feats, we have also been focusing on the spoken language and poetry elements of the KS1 English curriculum. The children collaborated to write a moving, reflective poem detailing their favourite memories and achievements from their time in Class 2. They worked hard on their clarity, pace, and expression during rehearsals, which truly paid off when they performed it at our end-of-year service in the church. They spoke with such confidence and reverence; it was a proud moment for us all, and there were definitely a few teary eyes in the congregation!
Of course, we have made sure to balance all that hard work with some well-deserved celebrations. On Thursday, the energy levels were through the roof as we held our school disco. The children had a fantastic time dancing their socks off to upbeat songs that got everyone thinking about and dreaming of the summer holidays.
The countdown to the summer holidays is officially on, but we still have a few more memories to make before we say goodbye. We are all looking forward to Monday, when the children will get plenty of time to play and relax with their friends, followed by a cosy, well-earned cinema afternoon. Thank you, Class 2, for a spectacular week and an unforgettable year!
