Image of Summer 2- Week 1-Class 2

What a busy and brilliant week we've had in class 2! We've been hopping from fractions to Peter Rabbit and even making snow. This week in Maths, we became fraction fantastic! We’ve been exploring the world of unit fractions and non-unit fractions. The children did a wonderful job understanding that a fraction is just a part of a whole. It's been great to see their confidence grow as they learn to identify and even create their own fractions using shapes.  Our English lessons took us straight into Mr. McGregor’s garden this week as we started our new topic on Peter Rabbit! We've been thoroughly enjoying Beatrix Potter's wonderful story. A big focus for us has been understanding new vocabulary from the book. We’ve been learning what words like "mischief" and "parsley" mean, and using them in our own sentences. We also honed in on suffix words, looking at how adding endings like '-ing', '-ed', or '-ly' can change the meaning of a word. The highlight of our English week was definitely writing letters from Peter Rabbit to his family. The children were so creative, imagining what Peter might say about his adventures. Their letters were full of fantastic new vocabulary and wonderfully used suffix words. They really put themselves in Peter's paws! In Science, we've continued our fascinating journey through the seasons, with a particular focus on summer and winter. We talked about the different weather we expect in each season and how animals and plants adapt. We had so much fun with our outdoor experiments! We used special UV beads to see the power of the sun’s rays – the children were amazed at how quickly they changed colour in the sunlight and then went back to normal in the shade. It was a brilliant way to understand the importance of sun protection. And for a bit of contrasting fun, we even made some fake snow in the classroom! It was cold, squishy, and gave us a great chance to talk about the differences between summer and winter temperatures. It's been a truly productive and exciting week, and the children have shown such enthusiasm for all their learning. I'm so proud of their hard work and curiosity!
