Class 3 have concluded the half term with a pocketful of pride, joy and faith.

Because we have come to the end of our history, science and RE topics, we assessed our learning so far. This involved looking at hexagons with key vocabulary and concepts and verbalising how they relate to each other. During this activity in RE, one child pieced together ‘God’ and ‘creator’ and explained that they are connected because ‘Christians believe that God is the creator’. Through this tangible activity, we were able to stretch beyond recall skills and begin to practice higher order thinking skills such as synthesising, evaluating, and connecting. Some children even added additional annotations to their hexagons showcasing the marvelous facts that they have learnt.

In English, we have written diary entries from the perspective of Sydney in the text ‘One Boy’s War’. As well as focusing on the inclusion of literary skills such as subordinating conjunctions, paragraphs and noun phrases, we ascertained that having empathy is crucial to writing an exemplary diary entry. Additionally, we have analysed the poem ‘In Flanders Field’, which was written by John McCrae; We discussed what imagery the poem creates in our minds and used a dictionary to decipher the meaning of Old English words such as ‘ye’. At the end of the week, we performed stanzas from the poem, whilst focusing on intonation and volume. In Maths, we commenced our new unit ‘Multiplication and Division’.

On Thursday, we had a ‘Spirituality Day’, which involved reflecting on ourselves, others, nature and our relationship with a higher power. Our class had the objective of having more care, wonder and appreciation which all of them achieved with flying colours! A future goal of ours is to consider and refer back to this in our daily lives. On this celebratory day, we also noticed that being spiritually minded helps to enhance our mental well being and connection to our community. What a wonderful way to end the half-term!

I am proud of all of your achievements and you should be too!
