In Class 3 we have had a spectacular week engaging in lots of exciting activities!

In Mathematics, we have continued our multiplication & division unit- we have been multiplying and dividing by 7, 11 and 12 and playing games such as ‘missing multiple’. This helps us to identify patterns in the multiples and improve our times table fluency. We have also applied our understanding of multiplication and division to word problems, and rearranged calculations which has prompted us to use the inverse operation. In English, we have begun writing our own story based on our text ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christina Balit. Determinedly, we have been including expanded noun phrases, powerful verbs and dialogue; towards the end of the week we edited one of the paragraphs to improve the quality of our writing.

In science we sorted which materials are magnetic and which ones are not. Before our investigations, we made predictions based on our current understanding and then reflected on this after the experiment. We noticed that a lot of the metal materials were magnetic, but it depended on which metals they were. In basketball, we practiced chest passes and bounce passes. In RE we learnt about the story of Hanukkah and why it is celebrated by people who follow Judaism. In geography, we used atlas’ to locate different mountains across the world such as The Andes, The Rockies and The Himalayas. Towards the end of the week, we made our Christmas crafts ready for the Christmas fair, which has started to spark our festive spirit!
