Welcome to this week’s update on the learning and achievements in Class 4. It has been another inspiring and productive week in Year 5 and Year 6, with the children demonstrating outstanding dedication and positive attitudes across all curriculum subjects.
Highlights from Our Learning This Week
English
In English, the pupils successfully completed their suspense short stories inspired by The Shadow Cage. The children incorporated a range of varied literary features to build tension and keep the reader engaged. Following their initial drafts, the pupils worked diligently to edit and redraft their work, carefully refining their vocabulary and sentence structures to elevate the quality of their writing.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, Class 4 concluded our unit on addition and subtraction. The children demonstrated excellent mastery of the formal column method for complex calculations. Furthermore, they explored how to utilise known mathematical facts to solve problems efficiently and check their work with confidence.
PSHE and School Values
During PSHE, our discussions focused on the concept of family and how we demonstrate commitment to those who are important to us. This lesson provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon our school value of Love. The pupils spoke with great maturity about how dedicated support, care, and kindness strengthen family relationships.
Computing
In Computing, the children continued their essential work on online safety by exploring the topic of online bullying. They discussed proactive measures to overcome negative online interactions and support peers effectively. Applying their digital presentation skills, the pupils created informative slides to share key safety messages. This topic linked directly to our school value of Respect, reminding the children of the importance of treating others thoughtfully in digital spaces.
French
In French, the children expanded their descriptive vocabulary by constructing full sentences to describe different personality traits. They displayed great enthusiasm while speaking and writing, practicing their dialogue in pairs with increasing accuracy.
Physical Education
In Physical Education, Class 4 applied their refined throwing and catching techniques to competitive handball game scenarios. The pupils worked exceptionally well in their teams, displaying strategic positioning and swift communication. This session highlighted our school value of Friendship, as the children actively encouraged one another and celebrated each other’s achievements.
Oracy Question of the Week
To help consolidate your child’s learning at home, please take some time to discuss the following question together:
"When editing your story based on The Shadow Cage, what specific changes did you make to create suspense, and why is redrafting such an important step for a writer?"
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.
Warm regards,
The Class 4 Team
